Technology, Policy and Management

The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) develops robust models and designs, to solve the complex challenges of today’s networked society. TPM combines insights from the engineering sciences with insights from the humanities and the social sciences.

The Department of Values, Technology and Innovation (VTI) is one of three departments in the TPM Faculty. The department consists of a unique combination of philosophers, economists and security experts.

The Safety and Security Science (3S) section is one of three sections within the VTI Department. The section provides education in safety and security science and risk management to all technical education programmes of the TU Delft. The section develops and provides this education in close cooperation with colleagues from these programmes in order to ensure an educational offering that is tailored to the focus of the various technical education programmes. Job description

The Safety and Security Science section is seeking a temporary, part-time (0,6 FTE) lecturer in Security Science / Risk Management for a period of one year. In this position, you will make an important contribution to providing, evaluating and (further) developing education in safety and security science for various technical education programmes of the TU Delft, including Civil Engineering (transportation safety) and Maritime Engineering (shipping safety and ethics). In addition, you will play a central role in coordinating and planning the section's educational activities. You will therefore need to maintain contacts with the participating faculties as well as consult regularly with lecturers and the section leader. You are prepared to work in a multidisciplinary setting and have demonstrable experience with providing and developing education and supervising Bachelor and Master students.


We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
• PhD in the area of safety science or risk management, or a related area in the applied sciences;
• Strong motivation to contribute to education in safety science and risk management of engineering;
• Demonstrable affinity for ethics;
• Outstanding organisational skills;
• Experience with teaching students from other disciplines;
• Experience with coordinating educational activities;
• Teaching certificate ("Basiskwalificatie onderwijs”) or comparable qualification;
• Outstanding proficiency in both English and Dutch (spoken and written);
• Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team.

Conditions of employment

This is a temporary, part-time position (24 hours per week) for one year, with an intended start date of 1 September 2017.
