Faculty Applied Sciences

The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest faculty of TU Delft, with around 550 scientists, a support staff of 250 and 1,800 students. The faculty conducts fundamental, application-oriented research and offers scientific education at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The faculty is active in the fields of Life and Health Science & Technology, Nanoscience, Chemical Engineering, Radiation Science & Technology, and Applied Physics.

The activities of the Department of Biotechnology ( span the multidisciplinary fields of biocatalysis and organic chemistry, industrial microbiology, fermentation technology, environmental biotechnology, bioprocess technology, and biotechnology and society. The department combines fundamental and applied research in these areas, focusing on biotechnological innovations. The department provides education in the BSc and MSc programmes in 'Life Sciences and Technology' and the PDEng programme in Bioprocess Engineering.     

Job description

The department has extensive infrastructure for the analysis of microbiological samples, and fermentation feeds and products by GC-MS and LC-MS. For the support to the research and education in this field, a full-time position is available. You carry out sample preparations and LC/GC-MS analyses, perform data analysis of large data sets and be involved in data interpretation. You are also involved in training new members, and you are responsible for the efficient use, troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment. Besides research support you will assist practicals education for bachelor students. You are part of a team of technicians with similar responsibilities. 


You have completed a HBO/HLO degree or similar. You have a good understanding of analytical chemistry and experience in the area of high-resolution mass spectrometry and semi-preparative as well as nano-liquid chromatography. Experience in the field of biological mass spectrometry and a good understanding of state-of-the-art techniques in proteomics and metabolomics are a plus. You enjoy giving instructions or training. Experience in a similar position and affinity with biology or biotechnology are assets. The TU Delft is an international university, and the role requires clear spoken and written communication in Dutch and English. Conditions of employment

This position has an amount of 30 - 38 working hours per week (0,8 - 1,0 fte). The offer contains a temporary appointment for one year with the prospect of permanent. The salary is based on scale 8 or 9 with a maximum of € 3722,- gross per month on a fulltime basis.
